- Works with the Superintendent and those whom he/she supervises to articulate and promote the school system's vision of learning and teaching
- Monitors and evaluates progress toward accomplishment of system goals and objectives
- Uses student data to identify program needs
- Develops goals, objectives, programs, and operations that are consistent with school system vision, mission, and goals
- Ensures that unit and program plans are consistent with the system's strategic plan
- Organizes daily, monthly, and yearly schedules to facilitate learning and teaching in the schools
- Communicates high expectations of students, staff, and parents/guardians
- Creates, identifies, encourages, and supports innovative ideas that in turn support learning and teaching in the schools
Management of Educational Resources
- Selects and utilizes personnel to meet the needs of schools
- Assists in the development of the budget
- Achieves maximum results for available resources and money spent
- Monitors the protection of instructional time
- Understands and utilizes available technology of the schools with focus on student achievement
- Evaluates program effectiveness and personnel effectiveness and makes appropriate recommendations
General Performance Responsibilities
- Serves as the district's liaison with various outside agencies
- Establishes and/or administers programs for which district students are eligible for participation
- Assumes the responsibility for writing grant proposals for Special Ed
- Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of special projects
- Attends meetings pertaining to special projects as assigned by the Superintendent
- Makes periodic and regular site visits to schools and classrooms for purposes of program evaluation of special projects
- Maintains accurate records for all programs supervised
- Informs the Board, Superintendent, school staff, parents, and community of the requirements of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
- Insures compliance of the requirements of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
- Supervises tutorial services and remediation of special students
- Serves as the 504 contact person and provide appropriate information and training to the building 504 committees and principals to ensure proper compliance
Special Education
- Maintains communication and assist building principals as needed with the daily operation of the school as designated by the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, or the Superintendent's designee
- Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing Special Education
- Contributes to the development of the total school phiilosophy of education by assisting in the adaptation of school policies to include special education
- Assists in the evaluation of the total special education program, curriculum, procedures, and individual student needs and achievement
- Supervises and evaluates Gifted Education
- Supervises and evaluates district Special Education personnel as designated by the
Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, or the Superintendent's designee
Student Assessment
- Maintains records of accommodations and exclusions allowed at each grade level at each school during all assessment cycles for students enrolled in Special Education
- Insures accommodations and exclusions allowed for students enrolled in Special Education are in compliance with the student's IEP the procedures established and approved by the State Department of Education
- Shows student growth on the Mississippi Assessment system over a two year period
- Performs any other tasks as required by the Superintendent, and the Superintendent's designee
Terms of Employment: Twelve month year. Salary estabÍished by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on
